This is a short video as requested that shows how to make the Classic Shell start button look identical to the start button that is in Windows 7. This is to be mainly used with Windows 7, since that is the last version that contains the Windows Classic theme, and looks best with Windows 7's Classic Theme itself. Limitations: This button is designed to match the more classic Windows 98 (High Color Specifically) theme in Windows 7. To use it you will need Classic Shell: link When you have classic shell open right click on your start button, then setiings, a windows will open and click All Settings, click Start Button, Then click Custom Button, click on button image, you will see. Next to button image, (right. A Windows 95 Theme (with Classic Shell settings). Contribute to ke2083/Windows95Theme development by creating an account on GitHub. This will update Classic Shell with a Windows 95-inspired start button and configure the start menu to look and feel like Windows 95.
Classic Shell was around for years before finding fame following Microsoft’s ill-conceived idea to make Windows 8 without a Start button or menu. It remained popular even after the Start menu made an official return in Windows 8.x and then Windows 10.

Development of Classic Shell was sadly ended in 2017, but not before the developer open sourced it. Classic Start arrived last month, picking up where Classic Shell left off, but potential copyright issues mean it is no more.

But while Classic Start might be dead, you’ll be pleased to hear the project isn’t. It’s just been renamed. Not once, but twice.
All we know about the name change so far is it was made to avoid copyright issues, and for a time it was going to be called NeoClassic-UI.
Thankfully that name change didn’t stick, and the new official title is Open-Shell.
Work on the Start menu tool continues apace, although for now it still isn’t very different from the old Classic Shell.
