When I first started listening to binaural beats, I thought that only a mad scientist could create such perfection. I never dared to ask, “could I make and create my own binaural beats?”
I held this type of brainwave entrainment audio to such high standards that I never thought a normal person could ever imagine putting one together.
Even though I may not be able to get to the level of professionalism, without some practice and expensive software, I can help you put together your very own binaural beats with your own efforts for free.
The question you came here to be answered is there some way how to make your own binaural beats? I am so glad you asked. Yes, there are many ways to create your own binaural beats.
On the internet, there are many apps and websites (free or to purchase) that can help you achieve that goal. By applying my instructions you will be able to create your own binaural beats for free.

This software is a bit more complicated but will give you a more professional feel. Along with learning how to create your own binaural beats, I will also be going over ways you can create both isochronic tones and monaural beats.
There are a few methods you can use to make your own binaural beats. As I mentioned previously, you can use apps, software, and websites. Some of these tools that can assist in your creation include.
Create Your Own Brainwave Entrainment Audio
- Audacity ( I will be covering in detail)
- Gnaural
- Ableton Live
- Logic
- GarageBand
- Binaural Beats Generator
Although I am not an expert in creating my own binaural beats in every tool mentioned, I will try my best to help you create your perfect entrainment tool for your desired brainwave.
I have experienced creating my own audio with and without affirmations and subliminal messages. I can tell you it has helped me be more focused on my personal goals. Most brainwave entrainment audios are more generalized to possibilities that are desired by the majority of users.
The only problem I had was the fact that I had to listen to multiple audios to help me in different areas of my life. An example of this was the goal of a healthier body as well as assisting me with increased creativity, were always separated into two different audios that I had to purchase and listen to individually.
When you learn how to make your audios, you can custom make audios based on what you want to work on in my life. With that said, let’s get started.
What Are Binaural Beats
Subliminal Audio App
I will quickly go over what binaural beats are. I have covered this topic in many of my posts but for those of you that are just tuning in, I will briefly tell you that binaural beats are two different tones emitted in each ear that is converted by the brain into a different frequency.
An example of this is if one tone of 30 Hz is sent to the right ear and 18 Hz is sent to the left ear, the brain will process it as 12 Hz entraining your brain into an Alpha frequency.
How to Create Binaural Beats with Audacity
The first tool I will go over is the one that I am most familiar and have found success, with minimal effort or frustration. Don’t get me wrong, I am no expert in this Audacity, which is the software I will be using to teach you how to create your own brainwave entrainment audio.
I just know the basics to get the job done. I don’t know how to do anything fancy in Audacity, but it allows me to make some personalized subliminal tracks. If you are new to this software, you will have to download it to your computer.
Don’t worry, Audacity is compatible with both PC and Mac. Just so I don’t make this post much longer than it should be, go to Google and type “Download Audacity for”….. Just fill in the blank on what type of computer you have. Once you’ve downloaded Audacity, figure out whether you want to have background music like:
-Sounds of Waves
-Sound of Waterfalls
-Sound of Nature (birds chirping)
-Instrumentals
to accompany your binaural beats.
You also want to know what brainwave you want to enter during your sessions. The way you figure this out is by first being aware of your intentions.
If you want to use it for better grades, concentration, understanding study materials easily, you might want to focus on setting your binaural beats to an Alpha frequency.
The following are different frequencies you can use for your specific needs.
Once you have determined what brainwave will benefit you the best, open Audacity. You will want to do your affirmations first.
Click on “Tracks”, a box will drop down and you need to select “Add New”.
You will get a few options to choose from.
Choose “Stereo Track”.
You will notice there are two audio tracks, one for the left ear and one for the right ear. With a microphone, which show be attached to your computer, record your affirmations.
Just click on the red “Record” button to record your voice.
Once you are done with saying your affirmations click on “Stop” button.
Once you are satisfied with your recording save you voice recording. You might want to keep the affirmation in a separate file and change the frequency (if you’d like) of your binaural beats in the future.
Go to “File” and click on “Export”. Export your file as an MP3 if that is not available use a Wave or “AIFF” if you have a Mac.
You can also record your voice on your phone and send your audio to your computer and click “Import” and “Audio” to use your phone recorded affirmations.
You will need to be conscious of how long your voice recording has gone. You don’t want to cut your voice recording in mid-sentence and you want to have enough binaural beats audio to compliment your voice recording.
Once you have your voice recording on Audacity, its time to create your binaural beats.
Click on “Generate”; a drop-down window will appear, choose “Tone” from that drop-down window.
You will see a new “Audio Track” and a box which will have
“Waveform” = Sin
“Frequency (Hz)” = Depends on the Hertz you am to create (1000 – 988 = 12)
“Amplitude (0-1)” = Leave it alone
“Duration” = Choose the length of time
Once you have decided how long you want your binaural beats to play and what frequency you want one side of the ear, right or left ear (pick one). Click “OK”. Make sure you choose left or right on each Audio Track.
You will now be halfway done.
Continue by repeating the processes, this time changing the frequency to equal your other chosen frequency ( 1000- 988 =12 Hz)
Finish your track with a “Fade In” and a “Fade Out” in your session. This will help you not get startled if it accidentally comes on as the next track playing. To add a fade in the beginning and at the end, select a small portion to fade in and out.
You can add instrumentals, affirmation or nature sounds if you wish to add it to your binaural beat. You can import your additional sounds that compliment the audio.
First, click on “Effects” and select “Fade In” for the beginning selection once you are done with that click “Effects” once again and this time select “Fade Out” on the selected ending.
If you are happy with your creation you are almost done. Go to “File”, select “Export as MP3”. Name your file and enjoy your new customized sessions made by you.
If you are satisfied with the way your custom binaural beats turned out, call it a day and enjoy your journey. If you feel like you might want to experiment with other types of brainwave entrainment audios, continue to follow and implement the instructions that I will present to you.
Let us continue by first focusing on creating your own Isochronic Tone. Following the isochronic tone instructions, I will cover the process of creating your personalized monaural beat.
How to Make Isochronic Tones
By now you should have one of the tools (Audacity) that will help you create brainwave entrainment audios. Having a collection of customized brainwave entrainment audios will no be out of reach. Another brainwave entrainment audio you can customize is Isochronic Tones.
Obviously, the first step to making your own isochronic tone audio is to open Audacity.
Click on “Generate”; a drop-down window will appear, choose “Tone” from that drop-down window.
You will see a new “Audio Track” and a box which will have
“Waveform” = Sin
“Frequency (Hz)” = Depends on the Hertz you am to create ( i.e 12 Hz)
“Amplitude (0-1)” = Leave it alone
“Duration” = Choose the length of time
Once you have decided how long you want your isochronic tones to play and what frequency you want. Click “OK”.
Next, click on “Effects” and choose “Isomod”.
Depending on whether you have a PC or a Mac this plug-in might not be available, just download it to Audacity. I have a Mac, so I went to Audacity’s plugins, looked for “Isomod” downloaded the plug-in for a Mac and I follow the instruction on how to install a plugin on a Mac https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RczA8SgoCDI. If wasn’t too complicated.
You will get a box that has a few options you can play with. To complete your first isochronic tone start populating the box with the following:
Finish up your isochronic tone with the same steps required to complete a binaural beat session.
How to Make Monaural Beats
Monaural Beats are configured in the same way binaural beats are designed. You must set one frequency on one side, left or right and another frequency on the other. This will allow the brain to combine both frequencies and make up the difference.
Besides the fact that there is not much information about monaural beats, getting information to create your own monaural beat can be a challenge. I have not had the interest in creating my own monaural, so having to write about creating your on monaural beats incentivized me. So let’s get started creating your very own customized monaural beats.
Go back to Audacity to start a new project. Before you open a new “Audio Track”, change the “Project Rate (Hz)” to 4800. Now you can start your new brainwave entrainment audio track.
Next, open up a new track. Click on “Tracks”, in “Add New” you will get a few options. Choose “Mono Track”. Continue the process by clicking on “Generate” and from the options available choose “Tone”.
Pick your desired hertz for the right ear and time and click “Ok”

Once that track is generated create another audio track. Click on “Tracks” in “Add New” you will get a few options. Choose “Mono Track” again. Click on “Generate” and from the options presented choose “Tone”.
Pick your desired hertz for the left ear, the time desired and click “Ok”
Once you have both tracks completed go back to “Tracks”, this time choose “Mix” which will give you more options to choose from. From those options choose “Mixing and Rendering to New Track”.
Once the two tracks are rendered you can keep the one that has been mixed and delete the two separate tracks.
If you are satisfied with your final results and decide that you are not going to add instrumentals or affirmations or subliminal messages, you can either save your work or convert it into MP3 audio you can listen to.
Since this is the last of the instructions, I will repeat the instructions in this section on how to finish your brainwave entrainment audio creation.
So, if you are happy with your creation you are almost done. Go to “File”, select “Export as MP3”. Name your file and enjoy your new customized sessions made by you.
So there you have it. You do not always have to rely on others to do something personal and life impacting, as is changing the programs playing in your mind every day. The fact that you are dedicated enough to try to take charge of engineering your future says a lot about your dedication.
If you are a beginner, it is okay if you listen to brainwave entrainment audio made by others. I started my journey with the help of other engineers.
I am so thankful for the expertise of those individuals who formulated the start of my miraculous change.
The change that has made me a better, healthier, and happier person. I have been listening to brainwave entrainment audios for over 20 years and I don’t think I will ever stop.
